The Comparative R2 and Its Application to Self-referencing Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
The traditional coefficient of determination or R is the proportion of variation explained by a regression model versus the variation explained by the mean. This measure does not discriminate well between alternative self-referencing models such as site index curves. The traditional R compares the variation explained by a model with the variation about the mean dependent variable, a very simple model. A generalized R based on the proportion of the variation explained by the self-referencing model versus the variation explained by another simpler (yet more complicated than the mean) model provides better discrimination between candidate models. We call this generalized R the Comparative Coefficient of Determination or Comparative R. Three growth series or plots from the South Africa Correlated Curve Trend Study are used to illustrate the difference between the traditional R and the generalized R.

Application of Gene Expression Programming and Support Vector Regression models to Modeling and Prediction Monthly precipitation
Estimating and predicting precipitation and achieving its runoff play an important role to correct management and exploitation of basins, management of dams and reservoirs, minimizing the flood damages and droughts, and water resource management, so they are considered by hydrologists. The appropriate performance of intelligent models leads researchers to use them for predicting hydrological ph...
متن کاملGENETIC PROGRAMMING AND MULTIVARIATE ADAPTIVE REGRESION SPLINES FOR PRIDICTION OF BRIDGE RISKS AND COMPARISION OF PERFORMANCES
In this paper, two different data driven models, genetic programming (GP) and multivariate adoptive regression splines (MARS), have been adopted to create the models for prediction of bridge risk score. Input parameters of bridge risks consists of safe risk rating (SRR), functional risk rating (FRR), sustainability risk rating (SUR), environmental risk rating (ERR) and target output. The total ...

Biochar is a soil amendment that has a high capacity to adsorb heavy metals. The aim of this study was to identify the influence of cow manure and its biochar on nickel adsorption and to determine the best models to describe the kinetics of Ni retention. Accordingly, cow manure and its biochar were added to the soils at the levels of 0, 2 and 4%, and samples were incubated for 90 days. Soil sam...
متن کاملApplication of SIMETAW simulation model for prediction of climate parameters in different regions of Iran
So far, several models have been proposed for estimating different climate parameters, but due to the lack of valid and long-term data in some meteorological stations, some models have been difficult to use. The SIMETAV V.1.0 model has been developed in cooperation with the University of California Davis and the Water Resources Authority of California in 2005. The SIMETAW model is a new and inn...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of New Identity Models in Western Asia
Current developments in western Asia suggest three new identity models have started to form and compete. Main inquiry of this article is to know what relation is there between these models. Hypothesis of the article proposes that through reproduction of the identity in an evolving process, each one of these identities has undertaken a role based on their historical identity and in a social grou...
